Overview
The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) was carved out of the former School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) in 2016. This is in accordance with the new paradigm shift from the School and Unit system to the Faculties and Departments system as part of the reformation agenda of the current administration. The former School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) was the last of the first Schools to be established in the University in 2003, and one of the eight Schools of the National Open University of Nigeria. The Law programme of the School of Law originated in the then School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) while it also served as a progenitor of other Schools such as the School of Education.The Faculty of Social Sciences has as its mission broadly, the task of allowing learners to grasp through the content areas and curriculum frame-works, practical and essential life skills and excellence through its mode of instructional delivery system. This is a mode of delivery that comprises of printed material, face-to-face contact and the use of electronic media (CD ROMs, Cassettes or CD's, computers and Internet). Through this strategy, the Faculty aims at broadening student horizons and enhancing their intellectual understanding of the Social Sciences and equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the changing needs of the Nigerian community.

Admission Requirement and Duration of Programme
Admission Requirements: All direct entry candidates must satisfy the ordinary level requirements before being considered for admission into any undergraduate programme in the Faculty. All Postgraduate students must satisfy the entry required as detained in the Faculty Handbook and on the admission website.
Duration of Programme: The flexibility of the NOUN mode of study allows a student to determine the pace, place, time and medium of study. For all our courses, you may choose to study at fast pace or take your courses one at a time (flexible mode). In general, it should take you minimum of 8 semesters to complete a programme just like in conventional universities. If you choose to study the courses by the flexible mode the rule of the thumb is to double the minimum time required which is 16 semesters. Note that all programmes are full time.
